Plant a Light was an interactive installation presented in November and December 2017 - a luminous tribute to the diversity and vitality of nature. It symbolized the perpetual cycle of life: birth and death, growth, transformation, and metamorphosis.
A glowing pillar stood outside the Tropical Dome, inviting visitors and passersby to touch it. Each touch “planted” a light on the iconic Dome, where lights would move, grow, and interact with one another, creating a dynamic, living display.
The installation was conceived and produced by CAVI, TEKNE, CIBIS, Communication and Culture at Aarhus University, in collaboration with the Greenhouses at Science and Technology at AU, and the design agency Kollision. It formed part of TEKNE, a strategic partnership between CAVI and Aarhus2017 – the European Capital of Culture, and was supported by Innovation Fund Denmark.
The interactive glowing piller for Plant a Light was situated on the lawn between the Greenhouses and the old mill in the Botanical Garden of Aarhus. The installation was active daily from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, from November 1 to December 9, 2017. The final evening marked the official conclusion of Aarhus2017 – the Capital of Culture year.
