Roughly 3,600 light sources were embedded into the facade of the Denmark Pavilion at EXPO 2010 in Shanghai, designed by BIG, an architectural company. The result was a media facade which ran around the entire circular structure. The unique form of the pavilion and the low resolution of the media facade (max. 9 pixels in height) made it necessary to find out what could be displayed and what the overall effect would be. A range of specially developed design tools made it possible to carry out the necessary tests and experiments before the building was constructed. The design tools were developed to ensure that the same software was used to control the lights in the building in Shanghai.
