Location-based network at Aarhus Mini Maker Faire

Together with PIT, CAVI has created a smartphone system enriching your visit at Aarhus Mini Maker Faire.

For the Aarhus Mini Maker Faire CAVI-PIT will deploy a system creating a web layer on top of the physical space in the library using arcane magic (and/or wifi proximity detection). This means that the faire's visitors can access information local to a specific stand if they connect their mobile device to our wireless network and open makerfaire.dk in in their web browser. If they walk to another stand the web site will automatically change the content to that of the stand they moved to. On the web page they can see information about the given maker at the stand, but also pose questions in a Q&A fashion.

Now this is a Maker Faire, so of course you will be given the opportunity to build something using this system! If you are interested, your stand can be equipped Raspberry Pi which GPIO pins can be controlled using a web API. This means you can customize your page on the local web to actuate something in your booth. So if you built, say, a soap bubble machine, then visitors in proximity of your booth would be able to blow bubbles using their phone from makerfaire.dk with a web based user interface provided by you. The Raspberry Pi will be running WebIOPi (http://webiopi.trouch.com/), and you will be provided access to the server where your web page for your stand is stored.

Aarhus Mini Maker Faire will be hosted at the Main Library in Aarhus 9th - 10th May 2014.
