STREAM

2022

STREAM is a dynamic light installation revealed in the center of Bjerringbro in 2022. The work was created by light and interaction artist Signe Klejs in close collaboration with CAVI.

The artwork draws attention to the city’s close connection to Gudenåen, the river running through Denmark that has been essential to Bjerringbro’s location and development. Gudenåen is a constant presence in the city’s everyday life, connecting the surrounding nature with the citizens of Bjerringbro and shaping both the landscape and the identity of the place.

STREAM translates the river’s living presence into light. Based on continuous measurements of the current in Gudenåen, the installation changes color and rhythm in real time. The artwork never appears the same twice; its speed and hues shift in accordance with the river’s flow, mirroring the natural variations of the stream itself. As daylight fades and unlit areas of the city grow dark, the lights activate and take over, contributing to the nocturnal atmosphere of the urban space.

The installation consists of two connected sections, extending across the bridge and beneath the viaduct on Brovej in Bjerringbro. More than 200 LED lights are mounted along the balustrades of the stretch. By utilizing the existing reflective surfaces of the surroundings, the artwork gains both visual depth and spatial presence, allowing the light to expand into the urban environment and be experienced by as many passersby as possible.
