CoTinker - collaborative and flexible learning environments

The CoTinker project provides a web-based, modular toolkit for developing collaborative and flexible learning environments in Informatics

The CoTinker project addresses the development and design of an open source infrastructure that enables the development of new learning tools within computational thinking (CT) to support collaboration and flexibility in learning environments. The purpose of the CoTinker project is to establish an infrastructure that supports collaboration between researchers and teachers. A collaboration that enables a quick and efficient way to design innovative components for digital learning environments that are adapted to the needs of a Scandinavian learning context in upper secondary school. CoTinker is built on Webstrates and Codestrates. Webstrates is a web-based platform for building real-time collaborative software. Codestrates is a frame- work for building computational media on top of Webstrates.

For some years, CAVI has taken part in the development of the Webstrates web-based platform, that enables fast and flexible prototyping of a wide variety of applications. On top of that, the Codestrates development platform has been developed. In the CoTinker project, CAVI has been using these tools to build a set of learning activities for high school students, e.g.:

  • a web tracking course, that reveals to the young students how comprehensive a data trail people leave when navigating the web.
  • a game controller course, that in a simple way enables the students to build a game controller interface on their smartphone and play a treasure hunt game using their own game controller interface.
  • a webshop course, that teaches the students to build their own webshop.

More courses are in the making and planning.
